Stanisław Sojka: THE RETURN
SHAKESPEARE & GREATEST HITS
In a single concert on 9/9/2016 in Chicago, Stanisław Sojka (Soyka) performs his greatest hits and
a selection of Shakespeare's sonnets (regarded by many as the most romantic poems ever written).
The evening is expected to be a replay of his 1998 electrifying performance recognized then as the
"Concert of the month" in Chicago.
Staszek Sojka is a jazz and pop vocalist, as well as musician, composer and poet. He performed in
diverse settings including the Warsaw Philharmonic, Jazz Jamboree (one the biggest international
jazz festivals in Europe), and pop song festivals in Poland. He was also warmly received in Vatican
by John Paul II when performing songs composed to the Pope's poem "The Rome Triptych" - the
only poem written during his pontificate.
In addition to albums featuring "sung poetry" - including works of Bolesław Leśmian and Nobel prize
winner, Czesław Miłosz - his other recordings encompass a variety of musical genres including even
rock, rap, and reggae. Recently, he recorded his own interpretations of the unforgettable songs by
Czesław Niemen (2013) and big band swing standards from the 1930s and 1940s (2015) that reached
the platinum record status in Poland. In recognition of his life achievements, he received the top award
of the Sopot International Song Festival (Amber Nightingale, 2014) and the Knight's Cross of the
Order of Polonia Restituta from the state (2009).
